What are the Women Doing?

  • 2 min read

First Presbyterian Church has two active women's circles, Elizabeth Circle and Sarah Circle. Both circles are open and welcome all women of the church. Keep reading to learn more about the activities and meeting times of both important groups in their own words:

Elizabeth Circle

Elizabeth Circle is a group of women who meet for Bible study and fellowship. We originally met in the evenings to accommodate working women. We also used to meet in members' homes. Over the years as our membership changed (think matured), we moved to afternoons with the church as our meeting venue.

Though our main focus is still Bible study, we also have given monetarily to various causes in the church. We have furnished a meal for the youth group, and have given money from our monthly collection to the Little Food Pantry, VBS, Pastor's Fund, Wednesday Club, or wherever there is a need at the time.

We welcome any women in the church who are interested in Bible study, interesting conversation, and of course, refreshments, to join us on the second Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m. in the Lower Lounge.

Sarah Circle

Sarah Circle is one of the two women’s circles of the church and is open to all women. We meet September thru May at 9:15 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month in the Lower Lounge. We begin with members taking turns to provide a simple breakfast followed by a short meeting. We “pass the offering plate” for any monetary contribution one would like to make. This money is then used for a variety of “givings’ - from a Christmas gift to a family in need, youth mission trip and church camp support, missions and other needs as lhey arise. We also sponsor the Alternative Gift Fair in November*.  We then have a program, which can be anything from just visiting with each other, learning a craft from one of our members’ talents or interests, listening to a mission report, time spent with one of our ministers, or anything else that is of interest at the time. During the Christmas season we have gathered at a member's home for a special holiday time together. We are an informal group, we enjoy being together and are welcoming to anyone who would like to join us. Contact Jinita Boyd if you have any questions.

*[Editor's note: The Alternative Gift Fair provides a way to give a gift to someone who who does not need anything by giving to Jonathan's House orphanage in Central African Republic or select items that help the self-development of people - sewing machines, chickens, fishing nets, etc. - through the Presbyterian Giving Catalog.]
