Did you know that House of Compassion (HoC) does much more than just serve nightly meals? Many of you have been or currently are involved with serving our monthly meal. House of Compassion also has a JobPath program that works with IowaWORKS to equip people with job skills and help them find a job or move to a better job. This program has developed as a part of a push to help equip people in such a way that they no longer need to receive assistance.
However, there are times when the most helpful thing we can do is meet an immediate need for someone. This is why we help with the meals at House of Compassion and why we are currently gathering things for HoC’s Supply Closet. This program requires people to meet financial guidelines and reside in Marshall County. Those who qualify can receive up to three hygiene and household items once a month. If you are interested in donating to the Supply Closet, it is especially in need of toilet paper, liquid laundry detergent, shampoo, dish soap, and diapers. If you are able to pick up even one or two of these things and put them in the container in the narthex, it will be very helpful to a family in our county. You can also make a monetary donation and write “HoC supply closet” on the check and we will purchase the supplies.
This is still a short list of the many things that HoC does in our city. If you are interested in learning more about what they do you can check out their website here.
