Blessing Bags

Earlier this year, the Missions and Evangelism committee applied for and received a grant from the Presbytery to purchase supplies to fill 30 blessing bags for people in our community. Several years ago, we received similar bags from another organization; we found these bags to be very helpful in meeting the needs of individuals who came to the church looking for assistance. We gave out our last bag earlier this year, so the opportunity for a mission grant came at just the right time!

We received a grant of $1500, which was matched by our Missions and Evangelism committee. We used these funds to purchase backpacks, full-size shampoo and body wash, feminine care products, socks, hats and gloves, sunscreen, lotion, water, snacks, and other items. It is our hope that these blessing bags will be a tool to share God’s love with the community as we provide for basic needs. These bags also coordinate well with other acts of compassion the church offers, such as food from our little pantry and use of our showers.

We have supplies and now we need YOU! We will be packing our blessing bags this Saturday, June 27 beginning at 10 am. We will gather in the Lower Lounge to place items in bags and pray for those who will receive them. This will be a great time of fellowship and serving together. It’s also a great opportunity for the whole family to be involved—bring your kids and grandkids!
