On a Mission in Texas

Our team returned from the youth mission trip to Broaddus and San Augustine, Texas, on Sunday. They went to a site hosted by Next Step Ministries, a Madison, Wisconsin-based group we have worked with several times before. Here are some trip facts to hold you over until the mission team reports during the July 10th worship service:

The theme was JOYJesus Over You. How do you find contentment and joy? Put Jesus over yourself. Make him the king of your life.

There were seventy-seven youth and leaders there from five states. Plus, Next Step staff from all over.

Our team was split into two crews which also included people from other churches.

One crew joined youth from Houston in painting and fixing the floor in an eleven-year-old

girl’s room and her brother’s room.

The other crew joined youth from Kansas and started a residing project on the host church’s parsonage and power washed and repainted the church parking lot.

One crew developed a strong relationship with the homeowner and family.

The other crew developed strong relationships with other youth in the crew.

The group had a lot of fun together and with the new friends gained in Texas.

Our team served as God’s hands and feet. They were a blessing to those they served and served alongside, and they were blessed by them as well. They were also blessed by people they met when getting ice cream, staying in a church basement, and trying to peel crawfish.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10
